Executive Summary
Welcome to my portfolio! My name is Nicole Pennetta and currently I am a Public Relations and Communication Studies major at Texas Tech University. My passion is sports public relations. One of my many career goals is to share my enthusiasm for athletics in order to inspire others to also discover the feeling of togetherness sporting events bring.
I created this portfolio to show some of my proudest pieces of writing that I have completed throughout my undergraduate career. Each piece has taught me something unique that I will carry with me into the professional world. The projects present within this portfolio are mostly public relations focused however, I have also included journalism and advertising projects I have completed. In addition I have tried my had in writing blogs which will also be found within this portfolio.

Projects
Advertising Research Project
I completed my advertising research project during the fall semester of 2019. This project taught me not only how to conduct research but also showed me what areas I should focus my research on. While we were given the option to work with a group, I chose to do this assignment alone so I could learn everything that I could from this project.
Focus Group Report
In the spring semester of 2020 my partner and I conducted a focus group looking at Texas Tech student’s opinions on the new alcohol sales that are taking place to the Jones At&T Stadium. After conducting our focus group we wrote a report explaining the process and our results. This allowed us to experience what it will be like conducting a focus group study in real life.
Informative Writing Assignment
I completed this assignment in the fall semester of 2019. In this assignment, I was asked to complete a journalism piece on a topic that happened no more than 30 days prior to the project being assigned. Informative writing is something I haven’t done before. I am not a journalism major so this project was very new to me and honestly was a bit intimidating. It made me go out of my comfort zone by not only having to find an interesting topic to write about but also finding reliable sources to include within the story. This project I believe was in the end, very beneficial and ultimately made me a more well-rounded individual.
Individual PR Campaign Case Study
In the fall of 2019, I completed a case study on Dawn Dishwashing Liquid’s save the wildlife campaign. During this project I took a closer look at this iconic campaign to see why the campaign began, what the campaign consisted of and if it was ultimately successful. I found this project to be a very useful tool to my learning. This was the first time I took a in depth look at a real case in which public relations practitioners helped contribute to the success of a major business.
Strategic Writing Project
This assignment required me to write a press release so as a PR major I know that this is something I will have to master. This was my first time writing a press release. My main takeaway from this project was how important framing is in the public relations field. It is a powerful skill that allows public relations practitioners to share the story they want the public to hear. Framing is definitely a skill that comes with time and practice so I am glad I had the chance to try my hand in it.
